Dr Tapiwa Nyamukapa

Dr. Tapiwa Nyamukapa (PhD) is a Postdoctoral Fellow with a PhD in Development Studies and advanced training in public sector management, project management, and local governance. His research focuses on urban governance, city systems, and the political economy of informality, with particular attention to how African cities organise and regulate livelihood spaces such as urban markets. Over more than a decade, Tapiwa has contributed to interdisciplinary research and policy processes across Southern Africa, including Zimbabwe’s National Human Settlements Policy, local authority governance reforms, and the City of Harare’s Land and Connectivity Domain research report. His field-based work spans urban settlements, markets, and stakeholder engagement processes that inform policy and institutional design. His recent scholarship examines urban markets as complex socio-economic and governance systems, moving beyond survivalist accounts of informality to analyse their role in urban economies, infrastructure provision, and state–citizen relations. Tapiwa has published academic and policy-oriented work that supports institutional reform and participatory governance.
